Standard Notes Forever!
I've used many note-taking apps, such as Obsidian and Joplin. The best thing about those types of apps is that they are very open in terms of functionality and experience. My personal issue with them is exactly that. I'm not someone who has time for complex note-taking with certain plugins and templates.
That's where Standard Notes comes in. Every time I try to switch to another note-taking platform, I always come back to Standard Notes in the end.
I cannot stress enough how simplistic this piece of software is for me. Although there may be some limitations with its free version, such as not being able to use Markdown or Rich Text, it's really good for taking short notes, such as ideas for a story that pop up in my head to think about later.
I've also started self-hosting it recently, as I'm getting back into it with my Raspberry Pi, and I find it to be a great experience again. It just fits perfectly with the rest of my self-hosted tools and applications. Although there were some hurdles in the self-hosting process, it's still very much doable for someone who is not the most technical person compared to system administrators.
I highly recommend this note-taking app for the simple nature it provides, where complications are not an issue whatsoever. I've always loved the "less is more" philosophy, especially in my software.
